A CERTAIN SENSE OF HER

Cutting old paintings into geometric shapes, members from the Gentileschi Aegis Gallery Association interpret quilt patterns through collage. These individual creations combine into an ambitious group site-specific sculptural assemblage celebrating women’s creative voice, while also intentionally nodding to the historic quilting bee— one of America’s earliest feminine collaborative creative efforts. By associating this with contemporary art constructs, we honor that tradition, recycling it (just like quilt pieces) into new energy, purpose, and, perhaps, identity.
